Confirmed: Former MP Keith Rhodd passes away





Former Member of Parliament for Eastern Portland, Keith Rhodd is dead. Mr. Rhodd who is the father of Mr.Donald Rhodd died yesterday the PNP has revealed. According to TeamPNP, a memorial service for Keith Rhodd will be held on January 11, 2014 in Portland.

Pit Latrines at Brae’s River Primary to be removed ‘shortly’ – MP Pryce

Member of Parliament for North Eastern St. Elizabeth Raymond Pryce in a press release, says that a project to remover pit latrines at the Brae’s River Primary School is to get underway ‘shortly’. The North Eastern St. Elizabeth MP called for a little more patience, after confirming the frustrations of students, parents and teachers at the institution. MP Pryce revealed that the school, which was established in 1929, is on the list to receive the crucial upgrade with a modern bathroom block this year. "We have received written confirmation that the project which was approved earlier in the year, and initially delayed because of Fiscal Constraints will now get going shortly. I have also spoken with the Minister of Education who again confirmed that the project will proceed before the close of the Calendar Year," said MP Pryce. Electro-problem affects water supply at Coral Gardens facility

The National Water Commission (N.W.C.) is advising customers in Coral Gardens, Torado Heights and sections of Ironshore in St. James, that the interruption they are experiencing is due to an electro-mechanical problem at the Coral Gardens facility. The company is assuring customers in these areas that it is working assiduously to resolve the problem in order to restore piped water by Tuesday, September 2, 2014. The NWC is also advising that several other facilities in St. James are currently out of operation due to turbid conditions. It is expected that normal operations will resume as soon as the high turbidity subsides. The facilities affected by high turbidity are: • Blue Hole which serves sections of Anchovy, Mount Carey, York Bush, Cotton Tree Heights and Mount Pelier. • Endeavour which serves Mount Horeb, Springfield, Kensington and Barnett Bush • Tangle River which serves Tangle River, Maldon and Red Hill. • Vaughnsfield which serves Garfield, Vaughnsfield and Maroon Town. • Cambridge which serves Ducketts, Bethel town, Retrieve, Fern, Seven Rivers, Bickersteth and Plantation. • Niagra which serves Elderslie, Accompong Town, Niagra and Johnson. • Mafoota which serves Mafoota, Roehampton, Lawson and Ackee Lane. -more- • Dantrout which serves sections of Retrieve, Marksman Road, St. Leonards and Amity. • Stonehenge which serves Stonehenge, Catskin and Chester Field. Drone over Golan Heights shot down by Israel

In a released statement the Israeli Defence Force says it shot down a drown that flew from Syria into its airspace over the Golan Heights yesterday. A Patriot missile was used to down the drone near the Quneitra border crossing with Syria. It is not known who was operating the drone which flew into the Golan Heights.

JUTC implements new tracking system

JUTC implements new tracking system
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will seek to improve fleet management and enhance the company’s service to the public with the implementation of a vehicle tracking system. Introduction of the Automatic Vehicle Locator will commence on Monday September 1. The new system allows the JUCT to track the movements and speed of the buses. The announcement was made by JUTC managing director Collin Campbell who spoke at a recent media briefing at the JUTC’s Spanish Town Depot in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine. Campbell also insisted that the company will continue to provide quality service to the public.

Cocaine worth £21M seized by British Navy during Caribbean patrol

Britain’s Royal Navy seized cocaine worth £21 million following a chase on the high seas in the Caribbean Sea for 12-hours, the British Telegraph reported. Over 1,300 pounds of cocaine wrapped in garbage bags was seized by sailors from the HMS Argyll. The large haul of cocaine was seized during a multinational anti-drugs operation in the region. Five persons were detained in the drug seizure and handed over to the US authorities on August 22.

Man chopped to death in New Harbour Village H/Scheme

An unidentified man was reportedly chopped to death by a man in a section of the New Harbour Villa Phase Two Housing Scheme in Old Harbour, St. Catherine today. Details surrounding the incident are unknown. A man who is accused of committing the act, attempted to escape from the area, however he was caught by residents in the Housing Scheme, who later handed him over to the police. Jamaican drug trafficker jailed by US officials

49-year-old Jamaican Dwight A. Langley who US police believe was a major Ganja trafficker was arrested on the afternoon of August 22, 2014 in Stonehurst, Philadelphia. Police reported that a number of barrels filled with 83 pounds of Ganja, with a street value of an estimated US$360,000 in addition to US$8,473 and drug paraphernalia was seized by US law enforcement officials. A police official stated that Langley had recently returned from a trip to Jamaica on August 3, before his arrest. According to the delconewsnetwork, Langley has been arraigned on charges of violation of the Health and Safety Act for possession of Ganja, possession with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bail was set at US$250,000 pending a preliminary hearing on August 28.

Case put off for St. Mary student accused of stabbing victim 32 times

A pending post mortem report has stalled the murder trial of 24-year-old student Pearnel Malcolm who is accused of the June 25, 2014 fatal stabbing of Lincoln Jones on June 25. Jones was allegedly stabbed to death by Malcolm, after he attempted to intervene in a dispute between his niece and the accused man. Malcolm who was in a relationship with Jones’s niece, reportedly accused her of being unfaithful, and attempted to stab her, when her Uncle intervened and he was allegedly stabbed 32 times by the accused man. A court date of September 4 was scheduled for Malcolm’s return to court.

Teen held in Lottery Scam probe offered bail

19-year-old Nakia Brown who is accused of being involved in Lotto Scam activities, was offered bail in the sum of $500,00 yesterday when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Magistrates Court. Brown was arrested on August 18, and charged with possession of identity information, following an operation by police in St. Elizabeth searched a house resided in. Several lead sheets, mobile phones, computers, and documents containing data on persons living in the United States were allegedly found by Police. The accused teen is slated to return to Court on October 27.
